1997 PSBA Hall of Fame Inductees

Gary Bower entered the Pennsylvania
State Bowling Association Hall of Fame for his outstanding
bowling achievements.
Gary is one of the top bowlers in
Central Pennsylvania. Gary has an outstanding record on the local,
state, National and international level. Locally, he has titles in the
Harrisburg, Lebanon, Lancaster and Franklin County Bowling Association
Tournaments. His PSBA titles include Team Championships in 1980 and
1992, Doubles titles in 1983 and 1992, and All Events Champion in 1974.
He has won numerous championships in tournaments throughout the entire
state of Pennsylvania. He was on the A.B.C. Team All Events champions
in 1970 and again in 1978.He was a third place finisher in the
prestigious A.B.C. Masters in 1985. He was a member of the 1979 F.I.Q.
United States team. In November 1996, his team won the World Team
Challenge regional title and competed in the tournament finals in
August of 1997 in Reno, Nevada. He is a member of the Harrisburg and
Lebanon Hall of Fame and is currently listed on the American Bowling
Congress Hall of Fame ballot.

Boalsburg, Penna.
Emmett Shutes entered the Pennsylvania
State Bowling Association Hall of Fame for his ability in the game of
bowling.
Those of you who watch the PBA tour on
Saturday afternoons might remember Emmett for he appeared on several
shows in the late 1970's. His most famous accomplishment was winning
the Showboat Invitational in 1979. The first place prize at that time
was $26,000.00. He participated in several. Firestone Tournament of
Champion events. He has eight sanctioned 300 games, well over 200 700
series and 4 800 series to his credit, his highest being a 845. One of
his 300 games came in the 1982 PSBA tournament held in Erie. His
highest league average was 227, back in 1973-74 season. He has numerous
local association titles to his credit. While operating a pro shop in
Allentown, he won citations from the P.A.L. program and the Optimists
Club for his work with the junior bowlers in the area. Always a
gentlemen on and off the lanes, he was inducted into the Seven
Mountains B.A. Hall of Fame.

Lewisburg, Pennsylvania
Kenneth Smith entered the Pennsylvania
State Bowling Association Hall of Fame for his outstanding
contributions to our Association and the game of bowling.
Tucker is very active on the state and
local level in sport. On the state level, Tucker has attended the
P.S.B.A. Convention for many years and continues to be an active member
of our family. In the 1991-1992 season, he served as PSBA President
after going through the Vice President chairs. Ken has served on every
committee at one time or another. He is a member of our Advisory Board
and attends all Board meetings. Tucker has been the guiding force for
obtaining corporate sponsors for our tournaments and through his
untiring efforts, this year over $7,000.00 in cash plus many
merchandise prizes were realized. He is well on his way to bettering
these figures for next years tournaments. Locally, Tucker serves the
Central Pennsylvania B.A. as Secretary Treasurer, a position he has
held for 26 years. He also has served as their tournament director for
17 years and is a member of their Hall of Fame. As a bowler, Tucker has
bowled in 30 PSBA tournaments and 16 A.B.C. tournaments. He has a high
series of 698 and a high single game of 283.
