1990 PSBA Hall of Fame Inductees

Reading, Pennsylvania
Frankie May Jr. entered the Pennsylvania
State Bowling Association Hall of Fame for his outstanding achievements
in bowling.
Frankie rates as one of the top bowlers
in Eastern Pennsylvania. He rolled at least one 300 game every year
between 1977 and 1986, a total of seventeen in all. These perfect games
were rolled in seven different establishments. In 1976, he won 2 P.B.A.
Eastern Regional tournaments and was the second highest money winner in
the Eastern regionals. During the 1978_79 season, he rolled a record
25 sanctioned 700 series. He was a member of the 1984 PSBA State Team
Champions. He has won every Reading Bowling Association City Tournament
titles at least once. He has a career A.B.C. tournament average of 199
for over 20 tournaments. His lifetime average for all league
competition is between 205 and 210. He was the youngest bowler ever
inducted into the R.B.A Hall of Fame. He was also honored by being
inducted into the Berks County chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall
of Fame, the only bowler in this select, group.
His contributions are not limited to
bowling ability. He has served as a director of the Reading Bowling
Association for many years and was a member of the Tournament Committee
when Reading hosted the State Tournament in 1984 He has chaired the
Arthritis Foundation and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters tournaments. He
is always willing to assist and teach bowling and ran Learn-to-Bowl
classes in Reading bowling establishments.

Johnstown, Pennsylvania
Andy Bomba entered the Pennsylvania
State Bowling Association Hall of Fame for his dedicated service to the
game of bowling.
He attended the P.S.B.A. Conventions for
over thirty years. In 1967, he was elected to the position of Western
Area Director, a position he held until 1986 when he was elected as an
Advisory Board Life Member, a capacity in which he still serves
faithfully. Over these years, he served on various committees. He
served as Co-Chairman of the P.S.B.A. State Tournament in Johnstown in
1988. He was a dedicated servant to the P.S.B.A. On the local level,
Andy has served thirty six years as an officer of the Johnstown
Metropolitan Bowling Association, thirty one of these years as its
Secretary. He helped organize the Johnstown Junior Bowling Association
and served as its Secretary-Treasurer for over twenty years. He held
many offices in the leagues in which he participated.
On the lanes, Andy has participated in
over 40 P.S.B.A. tournaments and ten A.B.C. tournaments. He won the
Singles Actual and Handicap divisions of the 1967 Moose International
Tournament and in 1973 won the Jednota National Tournament Singles
Actual and Handicap Tournament.

Erie, Pennsylvania
Carl Young entered the Pennsylvania State Bowling
Association Hall of Fame for his outstanding achievements in the game
of bowling.
Carl has exhibited his bowling ability at both ends of
the state. In 1950 he rolled his first 300 in Pottstown, in 1951 he
rolled another 300game in East Greenville, and in 1954 he rolled the
first perfect game ever rolled in the Allentown City Tournament. He
bowled the highest season average in the Pottstown Association for
three consecutive years. He won numerous tournament titles in
Pottstown. He rolled in the prestigious Eastern All Star League in
Allentown, leading his team to two seasonal championships, carrying a
215 or better average. After moving to the Erie area, Carl continued to
win many titles and honors. He won the Erie Dispatch Tournament in
1956. He placed second in the DeVito Classic Tournament in Chicago. He
joined the P.B.A. in 1960 and participated in many pro tournaments. In
the 1959 A. B.C. tournament in St. Louis, he was a member of the Erie
Kohler Beer team which placed third in Team All Events.
He teamed with Marion Bartnik to win the P.S.B.A.
Senior Doubles Championship in 1974. In Pottsville in 1989, he won the
class "A" PSBA Seniors All Events Champions, both Actual (1292) and
Handicap (1400).
By virtue of this, he represented the P.S.B.A. in the
A.B.C. National Seniors Tournament in Reno, Nevada. He won the national
Seniors Singles and All Events in 1980. At the age of 73, Carl
continued to be a force to be reckoned with on the lanes.
His contributions to the game go beyond his
achievements. He has taught bowling at schools, including Edinburg
University and Mercyhurst College and has given clinics throughout the
state. He is always willing to help anyone improve their game.
