WARRINGTON, Pennsylvania

Bill Groom joined the Pennsylvania State Bowling Association Hall of Fame because of his outstanding ability as a bowler. Bill's list of Championships will live in his memory forever. He was a member of the P.S.B.A. Championship Team in 1944 with the Nolen Coal Fuel Co., again in 1953 with the Modern Limb Brace Co. team and again in 1955 with the Esslinger Stars team. Bowling with Charlie Franch, he claimed the P.S.B.A. Doubles Championship in 1946 and again, this time bowling with Harry Munyan, he won the Doubles Championship in 1959. He was the P.S.B.A. All Events Champion in the 1947 Tournament. Although he rolled well over twenty five "700" series, probably the most memorable was the 722 rolled in the 1950 A.B.C. Tournament which earned him 2nd place finish in the Singles Event.

He has one perfect 300 game to his credit being accomplished in the strong Philadelphia Major League. In his prime, Bill rolled in five leagues each week, traveling to various parts of Eastern Pennsylvania to compete. He was honored by being elected to the Greater Philadelphia B.A. Hall of Fame in 1978.

In addition to his tremendous bowling ability, Bill was always a true gentleman on the lanes and was always willing to give instructions to beginners as well as any other bowler willing to listen.
